A Circular-Arc-Type Magnetic Coupler with Strong Misalignment Tolerance for AUV Wireless Charging System

The wireless charging system (WCS) is widely employed to solve the problem of underwater autonomous vehicles (AUVs). However, AUV prone misalignment caused by tidal currents, which directly leads fluctuations in transmission efficiency and output power. For this reason, a circular-arc-type (CA-type) magnetic coupler with strong tolerance was proposed article. Compared ring-type coupler, had better field convergence lower weight. Further, effect dimensional parameters on CA-type performance analyzed ANSYS Maxwell, were optimized, its coupling coefficient could finally reach 0.671. To analyze influence EE-type UI-type cores are compared. Within same range rotation [−10°, 10°] axial [−30, 30 mm], core has stronger adaptability, it can achieve stable power 575 W DC-DC 92.51% when rotational occurs. A WCS experimental prototype built based one couplers results verify correctness theoretical analysis simulation results.
